One of the most enjoyable things that we have done on social media since beginning m&m would be the Q&A video. We appreciated all of the questions that you sent in and tried to answer them to the best of our ability which is why we decided to think about this question until now. ''What has been the most invaluable piece of advice that was given to you by your parents?''.
Minnie; '
'Listen to what is being said, not how it is being said''
This piece of advice was given to me by my parents and is something that I carry through my everyday life. Sometimes things can be said in not the most encouraging or loving manner however, the text itself is worth while. I was also told at a very young age to 'always be consistent'. I have learnt that this not only applies in my dancing but also life in general. In 2012, I had an ankle injury which forced me not to dance for 9 months. And in the dancing world, that is a lifetime! I was given rehabilitation exercises to not only strengthen my ankle but maintain and build strength throughout my body. I had no option but to stay consistent and motivated. I didn't loose my love for dancing. If anything, it just grew stronger. Within that 9 month period I also gained a lot of mental strength which has helped me become the person I am today, physically and mentally.
Maddie; I am so lucky to have been blessed with such supportive and loving parents who somehow always have the right thing to say. Whenever I am faced with a difficult decision or find myself heading down a tough road my mum used to tell me and will continue to tell me to ''Follow my gut''. So small with such a large meaning. Sometimes your head and your heart will lead you astray but my mum is certain that if I follow my gut instinct then I will head in the right direction. Something else that i continue to live by is something that my dad tells me. Ballet throws all sorts of things at you and like most dads, mine isn't the most technical and won't understand when I start talking in french terminology but he will tell me that if I'm happy than nothing else matters. You have to worry about your happiness and if you are not then something has to change. These two pieces of advice are something that comes with me everywhere and not only applies to my dancing but also everyday life. I consider it to be timeless!
We hope we have answered your question and given you a sneak peak behind our closed doors.
